Speculative Gardens for Papermaking

Through a large-scale drawing and planning workshop, participants explore local histories of plants used for food, medicine, utility and beauty and their intersecting uses as papermaking and dye fibers. The project explores local plants to develop a thematic papermaker’s garden and challenges contemporary agriculture and animal domestication with a more complex materialist feminist narrative on the lives of plants and animals in a harmonious, multispecies habitat.

The first project took place at Cranbrook, where I was a visiting artist in Fall 2018.
